Ritsch Sisters are an artist duo consisting of Anna and Maria Ritsch, born in Austria and based between New York, Paris, and Vienna, working across photography, video and installation.
Their practice begins with simple, physical questions: how bodies share space, how touch is held or withheld, how presence changes a room. From these situations, they construct environments where images, objects, and structures are placed in relation to each other, forming spatial systems that are experienced rather than observed.
Moving between closeness and distance, control and uncertainty, it holds moments where relations are formed but never fixed. An ongoing investigation into perception and seeing runs through the work: why we see what we see, and how meaning is constructed through bodies, space, and attention. It considers how perception shifts between individuals, shaped by memory, context, and embodied experience, with a particular interest in how awareness and interpretation can change.
Rooted in questions of perception, psychology, and human connection, the practice extends into commissioned work in photography and moving image within fashion, editorial, and cultural contexts, where these ideas are translated into applied visual environments.
